Quarknet Teachers take the Berkeley Detector to Colorado and Virginia
Quarknet Teachers at the Continetal Divide Ken Cerire, a Quarknet teacher, sent us a graph which shows the results that he and his fellow teachers made with the Berkeley Detector. They used the detector in many places at Snowmass, Colorado to measure the muon flux as a function of elevation. To the left, you can see a picture of the group at the continental divide. The picture was taken by QuarkNet teacher Pote Pothongsunan of Cape Henry Collegiate School in Virginia Beach, Virginia. You can see the cosmic ray detector sitting on the lap of one of the teachers. This group even took the detector on a hot air balloon flight. Afterwards, Ken brought the detector to Virginia to make the sea level measurements. This graph shows the variation of cosmic ray flux as a function of elevation. The figure below shows some teachers before they take the detector on a balloon flight.
